A symposium on the subject of faith and money was arranged by Thrivent in July 2018 and held at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The only party in charge of paying for the conference was Thrivent. Some of the top academics and thought leaders on important world traditions from a variety of academic institutions attended the conference. The conference produced this book, which is based on the papers that were delivered. This book is written for a broad readership who is interested in the connections between faith and money.
Scholars, lawmakers, businesspeople, and community members can all benefit from a critical discussion of faith and money. Understanding the relationship between faith and finance is important for today's policy discussions concerning entrepreneurship, company growth, the function of not-for-profits in community development, and the goals of faith-based organizations in a rapidly evolving society. In fact, as will be described in the chapters that follow, it is even pertinent for matters of corporate culture/ethics, the function of leverage, the compensation of talent, and a variety of other concerns. The purpose of the conference was to explore various perspectives and experiences about the numerous linkages between faith and money rather than to achieve the unification of various points of view. The main goal is to persuade the reader that faith and money are not entirely separate things.
